Do You Sense Any Responsibility for Christ’s Death?
For centuries the Catholic and Greek Orthodox Church seemed to put the sole blame of Christ’s crucifixion on the Jews, labeling them as Christ-killers. Many Jewish people were persecuted and even killed as a result.
Others would blame the Roman Empire. After all it was their procurator, Pilate who gave the order for our Lord’s crucifixion and tried to wash his hands of Christ’s blood. But what about the rest of us? Do you believe you are responsible? Do you think that God will someday hold you in any way culpable?
As we prepare ourselves to partake of the Lord’s Supper today, I will take you to some of the Scriptural passages that can provide an answer to this haunting question. That is why I’ve titled this morning’s message: Do You Sense Any Responsibility for Christ’s Death?
